Tibetans living in New Delhi demonstrated against the People's Republic of China yesterday (Monday). This week marks the 12th anniversary of the Tibetan Revolt against the Chinese, which resulted in the Dalai Lama's fleeing into exile. Many demonstrators carried placards and banners exalting the Dalai Lama, who is their spiritual leader. The several thousand demonstrators also shouted anti-Chinese slogans, and some carried anti-Mao Tse-tung posters.
The Tibetan Revolt in 1959 was the result of dissatisfaction among the Tibetan people with the presence of troops of the People's Republic of China, and some reports put the Tibetan death toll at 100,000 with another 90,000 fleeing as refugees.
