A mass grave has reportedly been found in Vietnam, close to the China border. A Czechoslovakian television crew took film of trenches containing many bodies at the Vietnamese border town of Dong Dang.
SYNOPSIS: Because of its strategic position, Dong Dang was the scene of heavy fighting during the China-Vietnam conflict. The Chinese moved troops across their joint frontier on February the seventeenth.
The Chinese have withdrawn, but Vietnamese troops remain very visible in the damaged township.
Reports said the grave contained about one hundred bodies, mainly women and children. It was found about two weeks after Chinese troops completed their withdrawal from what they said they had not intended as a full-scale war.
This was not the first time the Chinese were accused of killing women and children during the month-long border war. In the middle of March, Radio Hanoi claimed that Chinese troops had massacred one hundred children in the market place of another border town -- Bat Xat. However, the London Daily Telegraph said at the time that experts regarded the allegations as part of broad propaganda drive for international attention.
