  • Description

THE FRENCH RUNNER MICHEL JAZY YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) BROUGHT A BRILLIANT END TO HIS INTERNATIONAL ATHLETICS CAREER BY WINNING HIS LAST RACE IN WORLD RECORD TIME. HE RAN THE TWO THOUSAND METRES AT SAINT MAUR IN FRANCE IN A TIME OF 4 MINUTES 56.2 SECONDS.

THE MEETING WAS HELD TO MARK JAZY'S RETIREMENT AFTER A CAREER IN WHICH HE HAS HELD THE MILE, TWO MILES, 2000 METRES AND 3000 METRES WORLD RECORDS.

HIS NEW TIME FOR THE 2000 METRES IS 1.6 SECONDS FASTER THAN THE PREVIOUS WORLD RECORD SET IN SEPTEMBER BY HAROLD NORPATH OF GERMANY.

JAZY IS 30 YEARS OLD AND HAS DECIDED TO RETIRE BECAUSE HE SAY HE CAN NO LONGER SPARE THE TIME REQUIRED FOR TRAINING TO REMAIN A TOP-CLASS ATHLETE.
