Background: The supreme test of sailing skill, the 27,000 mile (43,000 kms) Round-the-World yacht race, has been won by the Mexican ketch Sayula II. Holiday crowds gave the international crew a great reception when they sailed into Portsmouth on the english south coast today (Sunday, 14 April).

Although sixth to cross the finishing line, Sayula II was winner on handicap by about 40 hours. The British Navy yacht Adventure, which finished the previous day, takes second place overall.

Sayula II is owned by wealthy Mexican Ramon Carlin. he told newsmen that his boat could have finished even earlier if trouble with the rigging hadn't slowed her down. "I set out to win from the start", he added.

The first yacht to finish the last stage of the race -- from Rio de Janeiro to Britain -- was another British entry, Great Britain II, which finished last Thursday.
