Background: The first branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank in an African country other than Ghana, was opened in Lome, on March 12th.
The ceremony was attended by the Ghanaian Finance Minister Mr. John Mensah, and Togo's Finance and Economy Minister M. Jean Tevi. In an address during the ceremony, M. Tevi appealed to Ghana to join the West African Cement Project, formed by Togo, Ivory Coast and the French Lambert Group. Half of the 12,000 million Francs CFA (GBP9,000,000 sterling) needed for the company will be provided by the World Bank and the rest by participating countries.
Mr. Mensah said in his address that he hoped the ceremony would mark a turning point in Ghana-Togo relations.
