Background: VISNEWS Apl 29 filmed hundreds of thousands of cheering Japanese as they crossed the Nijubashi Bridge into the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. They had come to greet Emperor Hirohito on the occasion of his 58th birthday.
Traditionally the Japanese royal family appeared on the Palace balcony seven times during the day. Three times in the morning ans four times in the afternoon. Crown Prince Akihito and his bride Michiko made the appearance beside the Emperor, whose youngest daughter,Princess Suga--she's herself recently become engaged--was also there.
On every appearance a great about of 'Banzai' came from the throats of the assembled multitude.
