  • Description

The British entry, Paralytic, sailed by Peter white John Davies, yesterday (25 November) won the 18th world 505 Class Yachting Championships in Hong kong.

Over 90 yachts of the 505 Class have been competing since last Tuesday (20 November) in this year's World Championships. The Championships, sponsored by Dunhill, covers six races. Each competitor is allowed to select their five best races, and the boat with the lowest aggregate points wins the overall championship.

The sixth and final race took place on Sunday (25 November). From Repulse Bay the yachts sailed to a triangular course situated approximately 10 miles southeast of Hong Kong near Lamma Island.

Three entries, from Britain, United States and France, stood a chance of winning this year's World Championships as the yachts set sail around the 14 miles course. Last year's winner N. Loday of France was disqualified on the third day.

With winds fluctuating from 8 to 16 knots, Sunday's race was a tactical battle. The lead changed several times during the afternoon.

Thought it did not win yesterday's (25 November) race, the British yacht, Paralytic, sailed by Peter White and John Davies, won the 18th World 505 Championships with the best aggregate score. Finishing behind was the American boat, At Zumanu, skippered by Dennis Surtess with the French entry, Cool, Skippered by Yues Pajot finishing third.
