Reviewing the parade on Saturday (11 Dec) was the President of Upper Volta, General Lamizana.
Representatives of various youth, sports and civil bodies took port in the parade -- as well as units of the police.
SYNOPSIS: The President of Upper Volta, General Lamizana arrives for the annual anniversary parade in the capital, Ouagadeugou. Thousands of people turned out to watch the parade -- which has become a high spot on the calender for the people of Ouagadougou.
Special guests waited on the data to greet President Lamizana, when he completed his review of the troops. The President was accompanied on the jeep by his Minister of the Army, and the chief of the Armed Forces.
This year's parade takes place in a mood of optimism in Upper volts. The military government has devoted attention to encouraging these activities which lead to increased production. In this way, Upper Volta hopes to become still less dependant on French funds.Those are already reduced to the role of assisting investment and providing equipment. The armed forces were well-represented in the parade - Upper Volta has an army of about fifteen hundred ???.
This year's parade saw new emphasis on youth and its role in the community. Because only a little ever a quarter of the work force in Upper Volta is skilled, the country is looking to its educated youth to provide new impetus for the economy.
