Background: The efforts of the Organisation of African Unity (O.A.U.) to cobalt imperialism and the last vestiges of colonialism in Africa were described by Mr. Laban Oyaka, assistant director of the D.A.U.'s Liberation Committee when the addressed delegates at the All African Students' Conference in Kumasi on Tuesday (18 July).

Mr. Oyaka pointed out that the salvation of Africa lay in the organisation of the peoples on a Pan-African level. The one big and pernicious obstacle standing in the way of unification of the whole continent, he went on, was the persistence of colonialism and apartheid -- which must be totally eliminated.

The week-long All African students Conference was opened on Saturday (15 July) by Major-General N. A. Aferi, Ghana's Commissioner for Foreign Affairs. Theme of the Conference is 'One Continent, One People.'
The conference -- the first of its kind to be held in Africa -- is being sponsored by the National Unions of Ghanaian and Nigerian students. Delegates have come to Kumasi from all over African to give a very full and representative attendance.
