Background: Rumania's Foreign Minister, Mr Cornelius Manescu, arrived at Athens airport on Friday (11 June) to begin a four-day visit which will include rounds of talks with Greek leaders. This is Mr Manescu's second visit to Greece...his first was in 1966. During this visit he hopes to discuss ways in which trade and cultural relations between the two countries can be improved. Mr Manescu is also known to favour the implementation of a Non-Aggression Pact between Balkan countries, and the formation of a de-nuclearised zone.

Mr Manescu was greeted at the airport by Greek Foreign Under-Secretary, Mr Exanthopoulos Palamas, and Rumania's Ambassador in Athens. Shortly after his arrival from Bucharest Mr Manescu held initial talks with the Greek Premier, Mr George Papadopoulos.
