  • Description

THOUSANDS OF MALAYSIANS HAVE DEMONSTRATED AGAINST THE ANNEXATION OF SABAH -- FORMERLY BRITISH NORTH BORNEO -- BY THE PHILIPPINES. THE ANNEXATION BILL HAS BEEN SIGNED BY FILIPINO PRESIDENT, FERDINAND MARCOS, IN MANILA.

AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE, MALAYSIA HAS BANNED THE ADMISSION OF ANY MORE FILIPINO WORKERS INTO SABAH. MALAYSIAN PREMIER, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, TOLD DEMONSTRATORS WHO GATHERED OUTSIDE HIS RESIDENCE THAT MALAYSIA WOULD RESIST ANY ATTEMPT TO GRAB SABAH "WITH ALL THE FORCES AT HER COMMAND." IN MANILA, PRESIDENT MARCOS HAS SAID HIS COUNTRY HAS NO HOSTILE INTENTIONS TOWARDS MALAYSIA OR SABAH.

THE DEMONSTRATORS IN KUALA LUMPUR CARRIED FLAGS AND BANNERS DENOUNCING PRESIDENT-MARCOS. THEY CLAIMED THE FILIPINO BILL WAS A VIOLATION OF THE TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY AND SOVEREIGNTY OF MALAYSIA. MALAYSIA HAS ALSO SUSPENDED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE PHILIPPINES.
