    Brazilian Foreign Minister Mario Gibson Barboza arrived in Cairo on Sunday(28 Jan) at the start of a two week visit to Egypt, Kenya and Israel. Dr. Hassan El Zayyat, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, was at Cairo airport to welcome Mr. Gibson Barboza as his plane touched down. The visit is seen as another step in Brazil's "Foreign Policy of Initiatives" and follows earlier visits, by the Minister, to Central and South America and to most of the West African countries.

    While in Cairo Mr. Gibson Barboza was scheduled to have official talks with Dr. Zayyat covering the Middle East crisis and Brazil's attitude toward Israel's occupation of Arab territories. Agreement is also expected to be reached in the cultural and economic fields.

    Before Mr. Gibson Barboza left Brazil, his ministry denied press suggestions that he would be bearing any formula for a Middle East peace settlement. The Foreign Ministry statement also added that Brazil would prove that it is possible to maintain close relations with all friendly nations regardless of the problems and conflicts which may exist between any of them.

    SYNOPSIS: The Egyptian Foreign Minister Mr. Zayyat, and the Brazilian Ambassador were at Cairo Airport recently to welcome Brazilian Foreign Minister Mr. Gibson Barboza and his wife. Mr. Gibson Barboza was beginning a two week visit to Cairo, Nairobi and Tel Aviv. This visit is seen by observers as another step in Brazil's "Foreign Policy of Initiatives". This policy has already taken Mr. Gibson Barboza to Central and South America, and to most of the West African countries.

    After the initial greetings, the Ministers entered the airport lounge to meet the press. While in Cairo Mr. Gibson Barboza was scheduled to have official talks with Dr. Zayyat covering the Middle East crisis, and Israeli occupation of Arab territories. Agreement is also expected to be reached on economic and cultural matters.

    Before he left Brazil, Mr. Gibson Barboza's Ministry denied press suggestions that he would carry a Middle East peace formula. The purpose of the trip, according to the Ministry, was to emphasise the political presence of Brazil in Regions of the World so far little visited by Brazilian leaders.
