    PRESIDENT SENGHOR LAID THE WREATH AT THE MEMORIAL TO THE MARTYRS OF THE ALGERIAN REVOLUTION IN THE REMEMBRANCE SQUARE IN ALGIERS, ACCOMPANIED BY MR. BOUTEFLIKA, OTHER ALGERIAN OFFICIALS AND THE SENEGALESE AMBASSADOR TO ALGERIA.

    THE SENEGALESE LEADER VISITED THE BOUFARIK FARM, WHERE HE RECEIVED A HIGHLY ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME, TO SEE THE LATEST IDEAS BEING DEVELOPED IN ALGERIAN AGRICULTURE. HE'S THE FIRST HEAD OF STATE TO VISIT ALGERIA SINCE COLONEL HOUR BOUMEDIENNE CAME TO POWER IN A MILITARY COUP 20 MONTHS AGO.

    LAST NIGHT IN ALGIERS, PRESIDENT SENGHOR URGED THE CONVENING OF AN ECONOMIC SUMMIT MEETING OF THE WORLD'S NON-ALIGNED STATES IN ALGIERS TO PRODUCE A COMMON POLICY TOWARDS THE INDUSTRIALISED NATIONS.

    PRESIDENT SENGHOR SAID ALGIERS SHOULD BE THE SITE OF AN "ECONOMIC BANDUNG" - A REFERENCE TO THE POLITICAL NON-ALIGNED SUMMIT CONFERENCE ATTENDED BY 29 AFRO-ASIAN STATES IN BANDUNG, INDONESIA, IN 1995.

PRESIDENT SENGHOR, WHO IS ON A FOUR-DAY VISIT TO ALGERIA, IS THE FIRST HEAD OF STATE TO GO THERE SINCE COLONEL HOUR BOUMEDIENNE CAME TO POWER TWENTY MONTHS AGO IN THE MILITARY COUP THAT OVERTHREW PRESIDENT BEN BELLA.

PRESIDENT SENGHOR WAS SHOWN THE LATEST IDEAS BEING DEVELOPED IN ALGERIAN AGRICULTURE, AND INSPECTED A SPECIAL GUARD OF HONOUR.

    BEFORE LEAVING PRESIDENT SENGHOR SIGNED THE BOUFARIK FARM'S VISITOR'S BOOK. THE PRESIDENT FLEW TO ORAN, ALGERIA'S SECOND BIGGEST CITY, FOR A BRIEF VISIT. HE LEAVES ALGERIA AT THE END OF HIS FOUR-DAY VISIT TOMORROW.
