  • Description

Wine growers from the Languedoc area of Southern France converged on Beziers yesterday (Thursday) for a major protest over prices. The demonstrators are worried about competition from cheaper Algerian wines, and they are calling for stricter import controls and higher prices for their own products.

Visnews cameraman Pechberti followed the demonstration from an orderly flagwaving march, to a conclusion when some winegrowers rampaged around the city tearing down telegraph poles and setting fire to railway sleepers.
