  • Description

New York's newest pleasure park - opened June 18 - claimed as the world's largest family entertainment centre, recreates a lice of 200 years of American history. Set in the shape of the United States in 205 acres in the Bronx the pleasure park, named "Freedomland", took only a year to build - 4, 500 investors poured in 17M dollars in the venture - will have new attractions added each year. Estimated attendance this year: 4,800,000.

Freedomland's 50 "States" include the Santa Fe railroad from the Chicago of 1871 to the San Francisco of 1906 with a replica of the old narrow-gauge Iron Horses of the steam age; horsemen of the Pony Express of the Old Southwest of 1850; Northwest fur trappers, frontier cabins, Indian villages and paddle steamers of the Great Lakes.

Freedom land outdoes any Hollywood collosus: 10,000 trees planted, eight miles of navigable rivers and lakes; 3,000 employees in period dress; eight restaurants - no alcohol served; parking for 8,000 cars; a heliport, plus scenes from the Civil War, the San Francisco 1906 earthquake, the Chicago Great Fire of the 1970's, the Little Old New York o 1850; and a "Satellite City" of the future.
