Background: LEBANESE Foreign Minister, Mr. Fouad Butrus; arrived in Cairo yesterday afternoon an a two-day visit to Egypt during which he will have talks with Egyptian officials concerning the current situation in Lebanon.
Mr. Botrous, who was received in the airport by Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister. Mr. Ismail Fahmy, said in an airport statement that he was carrying a message from Lebanese President Elias Sarkis to President Anwar el Sadat.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister added that he would discuss with Egyptian officials the present state of affairs in Lebanon. He said that the events, following the Riad and Cairo summits, which ultimately ended the civil war in Lebanon make it necessary to re-evaluate the situation and seek fresh measures ensuring peace and stability in Lebanon.
Replying to a question on this weeks events in Beirut, Mr. Botrous said that all happenings in Lebanon over the last two years have been labelled as serious. Though they do not lack seriousness, one should not be too pessimistic while at the same one should not turn his back to events like those which took place on Monday night, he said.
