    THE AREA IS THE SCENE OF THE SOME OF THE HEAVIEST FIGHTING IN THE CURRENT COMMUNIST SPRING OFFENSIVE. NORTH VIETNAMESE TROOPS HAVE LAID SIEGE TO THE CAMP WHICH IS IN AN AREA FROM WHERE UNITED STATES FORCES ARE SAID TO LAUNCH CLANDESTINE OPERATIONS INTO LAOS.

    FIRE SUPPORT HAS BEEN PROVIDED FROM NEARBY DAK TO FOR THE DEFENDERS -- MAINLY MONTAGNARD IRREGULARS SUPPORTED BY AMERICAN AND AUSTRALIAN ADVISERS.

    DESPITE ARTILLERY AND AIR BOMBARDMENT AGAINST THE NORTH VIETNAMESE TROOPS, THE DEFENDERS HAVE SUFFERED HEAVY CASUALTIES. THE WOUNDED -- INCLUDING MONTAGNARD FAMILIES -- WERE EVACUATED TO DAK TO WHICH ITSELF WAS THE SCENE OF A GRIM BATTLE FOUR YEARS AGO.

    WHILE THE HELICOPTERS CARRIED THE WOUNDED, REINFORCEMENTS WERE MOVED INTO THE AREA TO TRY AND HALT THE COMMUNIST OFFENSIVE.
