  • Description

The day after she announced that she and her Italian producer-husband, Roberto Rossellini, had separated, Ingrid Bergman went to receive one of the major Italian acting awards.

The presentation was made at the Quirinal Palace by the President of the Italian Republic, Sr. Giovanni Gronshi, and the recipients included Frederico Fellini and Dino De Laurentis.

Miss Bergmann, who later flew on to film in London, became legally separated from her husband on Thursday, November 7,
The two had appeared before an Italian judge separately and then together. After proceedings lasting just over an hour it was decided that Miss Bergmann would have the custody of the three children, Roberto, aged seven, and the twins, Isotta and Isabella, aged five.

The separation, it was stated, was by mutual consent on the grounds of incompatablity of temprement. The three children are to be educated in a "school in Europe of Italian language".

Miss Bergmann's first marriage was to Dr. Peter Lindstrom, an American brain specialist, and took place in her native Sweden in 1937. They had a daughter, Jenny, now 19, whom Miss Bergmann met in Paris this year for the first time in six years.
