MOLIFI (SEQ. 3): "The struggle of the people of Namibia has reached a very high level. It has reached such a high level that even those like the racist colonisers who have been trying to tell the world the people of Namibia, the people of Africa, and all progressive, justice-loving mankind, that the armed struggle waged by the people of Namibia was terrorist or merely a communist movement in an attempt by outside forces, as they say, merely to terrorise the people of Namibia, are swallowing their words."

MUKHERJEE (SEQ. 4): "Today, when we commemorate 18 years of armed resistance by the liberation forces, it is my privilege to reiterate the total and continuing commitment of the non-aligned movement, a movement which represents more than two thirds of mankind, to the principles mentioned at their summit. Thank you."

Background: Zambia, one of Africa's so-called frontline stats, held a day of solidarity with the Namibian liberation struggle on August 31. A special reception was held at the United Nations Institute for Namibia in the capital, Lusaka. Top figures from various organisations sympathetic to the Namibian cause were present, including the South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), the African National Congress (ANC), the Non-Aligned Movement, and Lusaka's diplomatic community. Namibia is a United Nations trust territory ruled by South Africa in defiance of the United Nations. Among the speakers was Mr. Sydney Molifi of the ANC, who said that the armed struggle of the Namibian people had reached such a level that critics of it were now swallowing their words. Representative of the Non-Aligned Movement, Mr. Shiv Mukherjee, also reiterated the support of his organisation. The United Nations Council for Namibia held a meeting on August 27 to mark the eleventh observance of Namibia Day. The Council has officially administered the territory, formerly South-West Africa, since 1966, though South Africa has remained in physical control. This is despite a 1978 UN plan providing for elections which would almost certainly be won by SWAPO, South Africa's military and political opponents in Namibia.
