    THE SECOND SEMINAR ON NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPONSORED BY THE MALAYSIAN CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES, OPENED IN KUALA LUMPUR ON THURSDAY. THE SEMINAR IS BEING ATTENDED BY AFRO-ASIAN DELEGATES FROM 14 COUNTRIES.

    MALAYSIA'S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK, OPENED THE SEMINAR, WHICH CONTINUES UNTIL JUNE THE 30TH. IT IS CONCERNED WITH VARIOUS ASPECTS OF PLANING IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.

    DELEGATES FROM AFRICAN, ASIAN AND MIDDLE-EAST COUNTRIES HEARD THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER SAY THAT LEADERSHIP FROM THE CABINET ROOM TO THE VILLAGE HALL WAS ESSENTIAL IF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES WERE TO PROGRESS.

    THE UNDER-SECRETARY TO THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER'S DEPARTMENT TOLD THE CONFERENCE THAT DEVELOPING COUNTRIES COULD DO MUCH TOWARDS THEIR OWN PROGRESS. THE DELEGATE, MR. RAMA IYER, SAID THAT DEVELOPING COUNTRIES SHOULD COMMIT THEMSELVES NATIONALLY TO ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT.

    COUNTRIES ATTENDING THE EIGHT-DAY SEMINAR ARE CEYLON, GHANA, INDONESIA, IRAN, KENYA, THE MALAGASY REPUBLIC, NIGERIA, THE PHILIPPINES, SOUTH VIETNAM, THAILAND, TURKEY, UGANDA, THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC, AND MALAYSIA.
