  • Description

NEWLY DEVELOPED X-RAY EQUIPMENT IN ST. VINCENT'S CHARITY HOSPITAL, IN CLEVELAND, OHIO, GIVES A MAGNIFIED VIEW OF AN AREA OF THE HEART ENABLING SURGEONS TO STUDY THE FLOW OF BLOOD WITHIN THE HEART ITSELF. THE NEW DEVICE IS REPORTED TO BE OF MAJOR VALUE IN DIAGNOSING HEART AILMENTS.
DURING EXAMINATION THE PATIENT IS PLACED UNDER LOCAL ANESTHETIC AND A CATHETER INSERTED INTO BLOOD VESSELS OF THE HEART. A DYE IS THEN INJECTED INTO THE CATHETER WHICH SHOWS UP ON THE X-RAYS.
THIS IS RECORDED ON FILM SO THAT SURGEONS CAN SEE THE DYE SPREADING THROUGH THE HEART AND SPOT BLOCKAGES, OR OTHER DIFFICULTIES, CAUSING IMPAIRED BLOOD FLOW. IN THE NEW DEVICE THE X-RAY FILM IS ENLARGED THREE TIMES ALLOWING A HIGHLY DETAILED VIEW OF THE HEART AT WORK.
OUR FILM SHOWS BOTH THE FORMER, NON-MAGNIFIED X-RAY FILM AND THE NEW MAGNIFIED X-RAY FILM.
