Background: Following talks between British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home and President Zulfikar Bhutto in Pakistan early this week, the pakistani leader said he believed the two countries could have friendly relations of a positive nature. President Bhutto, who took Pakistan out of the British Commonwealth in January because he believed Britain was about to recognise Bangladesh, formerly part of Pakistan, also said his country desired good relations with others in the sub-continent.

Sir Alec, who was in Pakistan for two days before flying on Tuesday (March 21) for talks in Israel, told a news conference in Lahore that he and President Bhutto had reviewed events on the sub-continent since the start of the Indo-Pakistan war late last year. He did not give any further details.
