Background: Voltage chaos in Vienna and some parts of lower austria. The voltage started to fall out on Thursdays the 17th 04.48 in the morning and ended around 12.45.
The reason for this largest breakdown since 24 years has been Fog, dirt and ice on power supply lines and one broken main conducting wire.
The result public traffic broke down in Vienna, all homes in the morning without lights, 27.000 flat heated from one main system without heat also all other heating system other electric or oil with electric water pumps failed. All traffic light stopped and police had to come out to help to control.
And the most dangerous situations in all hospitals, specially for around 80 to early born babies. Firebrigade and police had to come with emergency power supply to keep the lifesaving machines working. In some hospitals the nurses had to help the babies to overcome the difficult time. All this stations hope now to get their own emergency power supplies for which they have been waiting so long.
Also the police, firebrigade with the electric power supply officials will get together to work out a plan to overcome a situation like this and to be better prepared next time.
ALSO AUSTRIAN TV ORF had troubles with all their film programmes during this day, all reports, also this obe had to be covered only in B/W because only one small developing machine worked from a emergency power supply.
