  • Description

Nine Prime Ministers and two Minister representatives of eleven British Commonwealth countries gathered at 10 Downing Street, London, May 3, for the ninth Commonwealth Premiers Conference since World War two.

In the Cabinet Room of the traditional home of Britain's Prime Minister, they will discuss affairs affecting the welfare of the Commonwealth's population-estimated at six hundred and twenty million, and four out of every five is coloured.

Although British Premier Mcmillan has said that South Africa's racial policy will not be discussed at plenary sessions, it is likely that Dr. Nkrumah of Ghana, or Tunku Abdul Rahman of Malaya will insist that the subject be included on the agenda.

Dr. Eric Louw, South Africa's Minister for External Affairs, is representing Premier Verwoerd who is still recovering at Pretoria hospital after having two bullets fired into his face by a would-be assassin at the Johannesburg Agricultural show April 9.

Minister of Justice, Edmund Cooray, represents Ceylon, now without a Government after last month's downfall of Premier Senanayake's month old Cabinet.
