Background: The Prime Minister of Cameroon, Mr. Paul Biya recently paid a four day official visit to Senegal. Mr. Biya met members of the Senegal government for talks on relations between the two countries and on African and international affairs.

SYNOPSIS: On the first day of his stay in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, Mr. Biya visited the headquarters of the Societe d'Immobiliere de Capvert (SICAP), the government department dealing with rural and urban development around Dakar. He was accompanied by the Senegal Minister of Environment, Moustapha Naisse, and met by the Director of SICAP and other officials. After being briefed on SIDCAP'S latest project, Mr. Biya was conducted around the site of the new buildings. The Senegal government is constructing a large housing estate in the capital, designed to provide cheap, but attractive, homes. The tour of the SICAP project followed a morning session of talks between Mr. Biya and the Prime Minister of Senegal, Abdou Diouf.

Later Mr. Biya and the Cameroon delegation held more talks with Mr. Diouf and his ministers. Relations between Cameroon and Senegal are close. There are strong economic and cultural ties and the visit was aimed at setting up further bi-lateral agreements on political and diplomatic co-operation. In 1972, the President of Cameroon, Ahmadou Ahidjo, visited Senegal and initiated the present movement towards closer relations between the two countries. Mr. Biya also met the President of Senegal, Leopold Sedar Senghor at his official residence in the capital.

The two leaders discussed latest developments in the African continent and international affairs as well as existing and future relations between Cameroon and Senegal.
