Twenty-three dancers appeared in the finals of the third International Contest of Ballet Dancers at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow on Friday (24 June). The dancers were from the Soviet Union, Japan, the United States, Hungary, Australia, Argentina, Cuba and Romania.

The audience responded magnificently -- a fitting tribute to the young dancer's movement and style. The judges were impressed too -- they awarded Danilo a first prize. It was presented to him by judges' chairman Yuri Grigorovich.
Another first prizewinner, Soviet Union dancer Nina Semizorova, with a variation of Khachaturyan's chipollino Ballet.
Nina was also well applauded as she stepped up to receive her award. She's a 21-year-old dancer with the Kiev ballet.
Soviet dancers dominated the first prize category. Alla Mikhalchenko, a 20-year old Bolshoil Ballet dancer was one of them. Also prominent in the awards -- the Moscow Musical Theatre's Mikhail Krapivin. He's 27.
