More than 300 Thai children representing 23 provinces gathered in Bangkok on Friday (24 March) for the opening of an annual youth rally. Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn gave a short speech at the opening ceremony, and then walked among the lines of boys and girls to chat with individual groups.

On Saturday (25 March), many of the children--who range between 15 and 18 year -- were taken on sight-seeing tours of the capital. The rally, scheduled to last until April the 7th, is being held primarily to teach community development. The children come from areas susceptible to communist infiltration, and each is required to take notes during the rally in order to report back to their villages detail.
