Background: THE WEST INDIES TEST TEAM WENT TO THE CRYSTAL PALACE IN LONDON TODAY (FRIDAY) FOR THEIR FIRST PRACTICE AT INDOOR NETS SINCE ARRIVING LAST SUNDAY FOR THE TEST SERIES THEY'LL BE PLAYING AGAINST ENGLAND THIS SUMMER. HOWEVER, CHARLIE GRIFFITHS, THE TEAMS MOST CONTROVERSIAL BOWLER, WASN'T ABLE TO ATTEND BECAUSE OF A SORE SHOULDER.

THE TEAM WERE ORIGINALLY PLANED TO PRACTICE TODAY AT THE LORD'S CRICKET GROUND, HAVING HAD FOUR DAYS TO ACCLIMATISE THEMSELVES TO ENGLAND'S CHILLY SPRING. HOWEVER, WITH INTERMITTENT RAIN OVER LONDON AND LOW TEMPERATURES THEY CHOSE TO PRACTICE INDOOR INSTEAD.

ALTHOUGH BOWLER WES HALL WITH A NORMAL RUN UP OF ABOUT 30 YARDS - HAD TO CUT HIS RUN DOWN TO FIVE OR SIX YARDS, AND THE OTHER BOWLERS WERE SIMILARLY AFFECTED, THE SIDE'S CAPTAIN, GARY SOBERS WAS WELL SATISFIED WITH THE DAY'S PRACTICE. THE NEWS PHOTOGRAPHERS AND CAMERAMEN WHO HAD TURNED UP IN FORCE, HOWEVER, WERE DISAPPOINTED.

THE NEWSMEN WERE ESPECIALLY WANTING TO SEE THE BOWLER CHARLIE GRIFFITHS IN ACTION. FOR SOME TIME HIS BOWLING HAS BEEN SUSPECT - WITH SOME BATSMEN CLAIMING THAT HE THROWS INSTEAD OF BOWLS. THE MOST RECENT CRITICISM HAS COME FROM AUSTRALIAN BATSMEN.
