    A NEW AUSTRALIAN MAGAZINE OF THE ARTS HAS JUST BEEN LAUNCHED IN LONDON. CALLED AUSTRALARTS, IT IS PRODUCED TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND THE MANY TALENTED AUSTRALIANS WHO WORK IN THE ARTS IN BRITAIN.

    THE MAGAZINE'S EDITOR IS MR. DIBBS MATHER, AN AUSTRALIAN WHO HAS WORKED IN LONDON SINCE 1962. MR. MATHER CLAIMS THERE IS "STRONG INSULARITY AND CONFORMITY" IN THE ARTS IN AUSTRALIA. HE CONCEIVED THE MAGAZINE AS AN ORGAN FOR EXPATRIATE AUSTRALIAN ARTISTS TO HELP THE ARTS BACK HOME. HE CANVASSED 250 AUSTRALIANS IN LONDON FOR HELP. AMONG THE NOTED PERFORMERS WHO RESPONDED WERE ACTORS DIANE CILENTO AND PETER FINCH, CHOREOGRAPHER ROBERT HELPMANN, ARTIST SIDNEY NOLAN, COMPOSER MALCOLM WILLIAMSON AND SINGER SHIRLEY ABICAIR.

    THE FIRST ISSUE CARRIES CRITICAL INTERVIEWS AND STORIES ON AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION, PAINTING, BALLET, WRITING AND SNIPPETS ON THE CAREERS OF AUSTRALIANS IN LONDON AND THOSE WHO HAVE GONE HOME. FOUR ISSUES WILL BE PUBLISHED IN 1966. THE EDITOR HOPES IT WILL BE PRINTED AND SOLO EACH MONTH IN AUSTRALIA AND ENGLAND FROM 1967. AMONG GUEST AT THE LAUNCHING PARTY IN LONDON TODAY (TUESDAY) WERE THE ENGLISH NOVELISTS LORD AND LADY SNOW (PAMELA HANFORD JOHNSON).
