SYNOPSIS: King Hussein of Jordan was greeted b his Army Commander in Chief and the Prime Minister on Monday when he arrived at a desert training ground to watch military manoeuvres by units of the Army and the Air Force. The exercises were held as Jordan celebrated the twentieth anniversary of King Hussein's accession to the throne.

The exercises were held about thirty five miles east of Zerka... The manoeuvres involved units of the Air Force and the Army.

Watching the manoeuvres with the King were many senior government officials - as well as representatives from foreign countries. Also there - a group representing the Palestine liberation Army. All the guests were told that Jordan's combat strength had increased ten-fold in the last five years. It was pointed out that the tanks they were watching were some of the most modern weaponry in the Middle East. The modernisation of Jordan's Army isn't confined to the tanks - light weapons, field guns and fighter aircraft are now of the most modern types. The firepower demonstration continued for some time, with tanks using live ammunition to pound the desert target. It was a clear indication of Jordan's military preparedness in case of further conflict in the Middle East.
