    THE STRIKE, WHICH BEGAN ON MONDAY, IS THE FIRST OFFICIAL BREWERY STRIKE IN DENMARK FOR THIRTY YEARS. THE WAGE DISPUTE BEGAN WHEN BREWERIES REFUSED TO GIVE A 15 OERE PER HOUR PAY RISE TO UNION MEMBERS. (100 OERE - ONE KRONER.)
    RESERVE SUPPLIES WERE QUICKLY EXHAUSTED AND NOW THE THIRSTY DANES HAVE TO CROSS TO SOUTHERN SWEDEN FOR THEIR BEER. THE SALES OF WINES AND SPIRITS HAVE SOARED, AND EVEN MILK SALES ARE BOOMING.

    PESSIMISTS PREDICT THAT THE STRIKE COULD CONTINUE FOR THREE OR FOUR WEEKS. THE PRODUCTION OF MINERAL WATER HAS ALSO BEEN VIRTUALLY HALTED BY THE STRIKE, BUT SO FAR, THIS HAS ALMOST PASSED UNNOTICED.
