    FLOOD HAVOC IN GHANA. OVER 4,000 VILLAGERS HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES SINCE THE RAIN-SWOLLEN VOLTA RIVER BURST ITS BANKS AT SEVERAL POINTS, FLOODING SCORES OF VILLAGES AND DISRUPTING COMMUNICATIONS.

    AT LEAST FOUR PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DROWNED. EMERGENCY SUPPLIES OF FOOD AND FUEL ARE BEING AIRLIFTED TO NORTHERN GHANA WHERE MANY SETTLEMENTS ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY SUBMERGED.

    FLOODS IN THE REGION HAVE NOW SPREAD TO EASTERN GHANA, AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WERE TODAY (TUESDAY) REPORTED STRANDED BY SURGING FLOOD WATERS THAT HAVE CUT ROADS AND DESTROYED BRIDGES.
