• Short Summary

TOULOUSE, SOUTHWEST FRANCE --- AND THE OPENING MATCH OF THE ALL BLACKS' TOUR. THE NEW?

  • Description

TOULOUSE, SOUTHWEST FRANCE --- AND THE OPENING MATCH OF THE ALL BLACKS' TOUR. THE NEW ZEALANDERS HAD A CONVINCING WIN OVER THE FRENCH 'B' SIDE BY 17 POINTS TO EIGHT. RUNNING AND PASSING FREELY THE ALL BLACKS SCORED FIVE TRIES TO ONE -- A FAIR INDICATION OF THEIR SUPREMACY.

A FEATURE OR THE MATCH WAS THE LARGE NUMBER OF PENALTIES AWARDED -- 13 TO THE FRENCH, 3 TO THE ALL BLACKS.

THERE WAS NEVER ANY DOUBT ABOUT THE FINAL OUTCOME ONCE THE ALL BLACKS HAD SETTLED DOWN. THE FRENCH DEFENCE WAS NOT AS STRONG AS STRONG AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN, AND THE TOURISTS WERE GIVEN PLENTY OF ROOM FOR FAST RUNNING AND DEVELOPING SOME IMAGINATIVE ATTACKS.

NEW ZEALAND SCORERS: CAULTON (2), ARNOLD, NATHAN AND DICK. FULL BACK DON CLARKE CONVERTED ONE ONLY. HERRERO GOT FRANCE'S TRY; CAMBERABERO CONVERTED IT AND KICKED A PENALTY GOAL.

(THE ALL BLACKS ARE DUE TO PLAY THE FRENCH 'A' TEAM IN PARIS ON THE 8TH FEBRUARY).
