  • Description

General Amin has charged the Sudden with brutality -- and claimed its Government was 'worse than South Africa'. He made the accusation while on tour of Uganda's Acholi District on Friday (September 24), and quoted as evidence large numbers of black African refugees that fled across the border to Uganda from the Sudan. He denied, however, that Uganda was harbouring or training terrorists to fight the Sudanese Government.

SYNOPSIS: President Idi Amin of Uganda has accused the Sudan of brutality, and of being worse in its treatment of black Africans than the regime in South Africa. Speaking while on a tour of the Acholi district of Uganda on Friday, President Amin quoted as evidence large numbers of black African refuses that had fled across the border to Uganda from the Arab government in the Sudan.

The President denied, however, that Uganda was harbouring or training any of the Sudan's anti-Government terrorists....and he appealed to local tribesmen to report any such activity found in Uganda. At the same time, he warned the Sudanese Government to stay out of Ugandan affairs. It should mind its own problems, he said, which it had not been able to solve since 1955.

On internal affairs, President Amin urged Ugandans to concentrate on increasing the yield from their land; to take their children to school; and to propose new ideas to help in the next national five-year development plan.
