    PRESIDENT JULIUS NYERERE OF TANZANIA RECEIVED A RED CARPET WELCOME WHEN HE ARRIVED IN THE NORTH KOREAN CAPITAL OF PYONG YANG FOR A STATE VISIT. WITH HIM WAS HIS WIFE.

    HE ATTENDED A VAST RALLY AT THE MAIN STADIUM IN NORTH KOREA WITH THE NORTH KOREAN PREMIER, KIM IL SUNG.

    PRESIDENT NYERERE SAID TANZANIA KNEW THAT NORTH KOREA HAD DONE A LOT "IN DEFENCE OF YOUR COUNTRY AND IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUR COUNTRY." IN THE NEXT FEW DAY THAT WE WILL BE HERE WE HOPE TO SEE AND LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE."
    THE PRESIDENT HAS ALSO CALLED FOR KOREAN ASSISTANCE TO HELP IN HIS COUNTRY'S INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT. HE SAID KOREAN WORKERS AND TECHNICIANS HAD MADE BIG STRIDES IN INDUSTRIALISATION.

    THE TWO LEADERS HAD A SERIES OF CONSULTATIONS ON MATTERS OF MUTUAL IMPORTANCE. AN ANNOUNCEMENT SAID THE TALKS PROCEEDED IN A FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE FROM BEGINNING TO END AND THE TWO SIDES REACHED AGREEMENT ON THE QUESTIONS DISCUSSED.

    MORE THAN 100,000 KOREANS TURNED OUT AT A MASS RALLY IN PYONGYANG HELD IN PRESIDENT NYERERE'S HONOUR. AT THE RALLY THERE WERE CRIES OF "LONG LIVE NYERERE" AND THE PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE WERE PRESENTED WITH FLOWERS.
