Besides the greco-turkish tension due to the differences over Cyprus, Greece and Turkey have undertaken a marathon of naval supremacy in the Aegean Archipelago. Inspite the fact that the Armed Forces of these two countries are under the South-Eastern NATO Command of Smyrna, there exist a tendency of active military and naval preponderance on both sides, which proves that, unless the greco-turkish querrel is settled, there will be no concord and effectiveness in NATO power.
As it is well known, Turkey has received recently some surface Men of War from U.S.; so the Greeks, after various efforts, succeeded in obtaining some old american units added to the Greek Royal Fleet. The first of these units, a 2500 tons submersible arrived from the Pacific and joined the Greek Flotilla of Submarines. Her new name is "Poseidon". Another one is expected in a few months time.
