This is Musa'ad - a tiny Libyan village on the Libyan-Egyptian border.
It's the kind of place nobody ever heard of except during a war. But it's on border (it's near Tobruk and it's) near a major Libyan air base. Musa'ad was hit in the first days of the fighting.
At the border-about two city blocks away-Egyptians are lining up with everything they can strap to a car-to leave the country. The Libyans are letting them go. There is a ceasefire-the fighting is supposed to be over. But the Libyans say they still have their fingers on the trigger-and nobody wants to be caught in this area if the ceasefire is broken.
A Place like Egypt joints the United States in seeking Middle East peace talks. Libya is opposed. Libya wants a United Arab front against Israel.
There is intense anti-American sentiment here. The Libyan press charge that the border fighting was planned in Washington - that it was implemented by Egypt's President Anouar Sadat, who is referred to here as the "Agent of American imperialism."
The Libyans feel they have won a victory - and they pint to wreckage of Egyptian planes and captured weapons. Responsible Libyan leaders say the United States was NOT directly involved in this conflict. But they are angered by a U.S. announcement just days after the fighting, that America will sell two hundred million dollars worth of military equipment to Egypt.
As we left the border area, a Libyan military convoy passed us headed in the opposite direction. The Libyan military is still officially on full alert.
At Tobruk, Libyan and Egyptian wounded are being treated at the same hospitals-at one location in adjoining rooms. There is no schedule yet a prisoner exchange. Egypt's Sadat and Libya's Colonel Muhammad Gadafi continue to trade verbal insults and no direct talks between the two leaders are scheduled. It is a tense situation - one that could easily erupt again shooting.
This is the corrected film We took out (Mohammad) phad???ri (wrong 1st name)
