    M. Ibrahim Helmi Abdel Rahman, Executive Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), during a four-day visit to Senegal drew up a technical assistance programme which will establish new light and medium industries, including food processing plants, in that country.

    During his four day stay, which ended last Friday (June 5), M. Abdel Rahman said that the problem of small industries was the most important for developing countries.

    Coinciding with M. Abdel Rahman's visit was the end of an eleven day training course intended to help West African countries develop light industry. The course was organised by UNIDO, the Economic Commission for Africa and the Senegal Government.

    Participants came from Ivory Coast, Dahomey, Gambia, Ghana, Upper Volta, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo & Senegal.

    M. Abdel Rahman, who visited Senegal at the close of his tour of Africa, attended a number of meetings on the questions of industrial development. He also met members of the Secretariat of the Organisation of Senegal River States, which groups Guinea, Mali, Mauritania & Senegal. They discussed prospects of integrated industrial development.
