Soccer...and a four-year-old boy will be the centre of attraction when the draw for the 1978 World Cup is made in Argentina at the weekend (14 January). Sixteen nations, including holders West Germany, will compete for the Cup in June.

SYNOPSIS: Riccardo Teizeira found the limelight which greeted him on his arrival in Buenos Aires too much...so all the talking to reporters at the airport was left to his grandfather, Joao Havelange, Brazilian president of the International Football Federation-FIFA.

Riccardo will have the task of drawing the slips to determine into which of four groups 12 of the 16 countries will go to play the first round of the final tournament.

The Cup organising committee was meeting this week to select the leaders for two of the finalist groups. Argentina, as hosts, and West Germany, as defending champions, will head two groups. The other two were expected to be chosen from among Holland, Italy and Brazil.

The draw will be held at the San Martin Cultural Centre in down-town Buenos Aires. Strict security will prevail at the 11-storey building, which contains a variety of auditoriums, theatres and cinemas. Police and armed troops will be on patrol duty.

More than 500 national and foreign correspondents will attend the draw. Most of them will follow the proceedings on closed circuit television in auditoriums bristling with communication facilities. The draw will be the first colour television transmission from Argentina.
