    The new Netherlands ambassador to Liberia, Mr. Van Raalte, presented his credentials to President Tubman in Monrovia on Monday (May 17). On his arrival at the Executive Mansion for the ceremony, he was met by a guard of honour which he later inspected. Presenting his credentials he said Liberia was an example of "freedom, dignity and progress" and President Tubman replied that he was pleased with the mutual understanding and warm relations between Liberia and the Netherlands.

    SYNOPSIS: The new Netherlands envoy in Liberia, Ambassador van Raalte, was greeted by a guard of honour at the Executive Place in Monrovia on Monday when he presented his credentials to President William Tubman.

    Following a military salute by the guard, officers and men of the Executive Mansion Guard, the Ambassador was accompanied by Liberian State Department Chief of Protocal Mr. James Morgan and President Tubman's Aide-de-Camp, General Samuel Johnson, as he inspected the troops.

    Before presenting his credentials Ambassador van Raalte spoke of "the expanding and cordial relations" between Liberia and the Netherlands.

    The Chief Justice of Liberia--on the left--sat with President Tubman during the Dutch envoy's speech, in which he said that Liberia was an example of "human freedom, dignity and progress".

    Replaying after Ambassador van Raalte presented his credentials, President Tubman said that in a world filled with strife it was gratifying to know that friendship still existed between Liberia and the Netherlands.
