Background: Princess Alexandra of Kent was one of the guests filmed June 5 by VISNEWS arriving for the centenary service at Westminster Abbey to commemorate the self-government of Queensland, Australia.

For the first time in a hundred years, the Queensland flag flew over the Abbey. Among the Commonwealth and British representatives were Mr. Menzies, Prime Minister of Australia and Secretary of state Commonwealth Relations, Earl Home, representing cabinet Ministers.

The service, taken by Dr. Wand, formerly Bishop of london and Archbishop of Brisbane, also commemorated the consecration of the first bishop of Brisbane, the most Rev.Tufnell. Some of his descendants were at the centenary celebration.

Queensland became a self-governing state June 6, 1859. Queen Victoria signed its charter of self-government that day and gave the state the name of Queensland after herself.
