Egyptian Vice President Hosni Mubarak arrived in Paris on Sunday (11 December) for talks with President Valery Giscard d'Estaing. He had been invited to brief the French head of state on the latest Middle East peace moves.
SYNOPSIS: Before his talks with President Giscard and Prime Minister Raymond Barre, Vice president Mubarak was due to tour French nuclear energy centres and military installations during his official visit. His meeting with Premier Barre was arranged for December 15th, and with President Giscard the following day.
Mr. Mubarak made no comment to reporters when he arrived at Orly airport, but Reuters News Agency said in Cairo that he was taking with him a verbal message from President Anwar Sadat. When he left Egypt the Vice President praised French support for his country's peace moves. According to the semi-official Cairo newspaper Al-Ahram, Mr. Mubarak was visiting France at the invitation of the government. His talks with president Giscard were due to take place a day after the opening of the Cairo summit meeting called by President Sadat.
