    A truckload of 47 Arab commandos was taken on Thursday (22 July) to Ramtha under guard and then released across the border into Syria. They were among the 2,300 commandos the Jordan government announced it had detained for questioning after the Army had cleared them from their bases in North Jordan. The group was made up of 33 Syrians, 12 Lebanese, an Egyptian and a Sudanese. After a roll call, the commanders cheered King Hussein for repatriating then, and walked off up the road across the border into Syria.

    SYNOPSIS: A machine gun guards this Jordanian Army truck which brought 47 Palestinian commandos to Ramtha for repatriation across the border into Syria on Thursday. They were among nearly two and a half thousand commandos the Jordan Government announced it had detained for questioning after the army had cleared them from their bases in North Jordan.

    The commando group was made up of 33 Syrians, 12 Lebanese, an Egyptian and a Sudanese. Some were dressed in camouflage uniforms and many sported long beards. All appeared grateful that the authorities had decided to repatriate them.

    Still under guard, the commandos answered a roll call and final check before the army officers were satisfied they were ready for release.

    After cheering King Hussein, the commandos departed up the road and across the Syrian border.
