Kuwait, small in size but rich in oil resources, celebrated the second anniversary of the country's Union with Egypt and Syria, Feb 1, with mass demonstrations.

Pro-Nasser / Crowds thronged the square opposite the Security Office in the morning, waving flags and calling for union with the United Arab Republic.

In the afternoon, crowds some 15,000 strong, gathered in the football stadium to listen to speeches by local politicians and lesser sheiks.

Kuwait (population: 200,000) has many U.A.R. citizens on the government staff. Most of the school teachers in the country are Egyptian or Syrian nationals.

The country's Security Office is run by Sheik Abdullah Mubarack Al Sabahk, a strong sympathizer of Nasser, and uncle of the ruler of Kuwait.

A few months ago, Sheik Al Sabahk returned to Kuwait after visiting Col. Nasser in Cairo and announced that his country would eventually join the U.A.R. This statement was later denied by the British Foreign Office.
