  • Description

Although many Asians have already in recent weeks, been leaving Uganda of their own accord, the organised massive airlift of tens of thousands of Asians, banished from Uganda by President Idi Amin, is expected to begin from Entebbe Airport early next week. The first aircraft out of Uganda is expected to be a Super-VCIO of East African Airways...jointly owned by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. Until today (Thursday, 14 Sept.) the first "Immigrant Special" flight was thought likely to depart for Britain on Saturday (16 Sept.), however aviation authorities have now been advised that many of the organising formalities can not be completed before the weekend. The flights, when they begin, will be the biggest civilian airlift in history, as up to an estimated 55,000 Ugandan Asians are forced to quit the country. They are compelled to be out by November 8 or else be herded into transit camps.
