    A women from Glens Falls in New York state has come up with a bright idea to help celebrate the 200th anniversary of United States independence.

    Arlene Detemple has been busy painting the city's 400 fire hydrants -- a task she hoped to complete before the celebrations begin in 1976.

    With help from residents of Glens Falls and surrounding towns, she has been painting the hydrants as figures of American history -- from confederate noticed fire hydrants.

    Apart from contributing to the bi-centenary celebrations, Arlene Detemple said she had been turning a lot of heads, because most people rarely noticed fire hydrants.
