Background: Soccer...and in Mar Del Plata in Argentina, Brazil and Spain played out and uninspiring scoreless draw on Wednesday (7 June) to leave the second qualifying position from Group Three of the World Cup wide open. With one match to be played, Brazil, with two points, and Sweden and Spain who have one each, can also join Austria who qualified for the last eight by Beating Sweden.
SYNOPSIS: In a match dominated by strong defences Brazil were nearly the first to score when Olmo went close to scoring an own goal for Spain. Brazil's second chance came minutes later when Nelinho drove a free kick past the wall, narrowly going wide.
Brazil had a host of chances and squandered them all, with a fine cross from Nelinho on this occasion going begging for another Brazilian attacker to meet it.
The second half began in more lively fashion. Brazil steal possession from Spain but the shot from Reinaldo misses the chance.
Immediately afterwards the Brazilians mounted their best attack of the match. A long ball comes through to Reinaldo, but brilliant play from the Spanish keeper stops the shot. Another free kick by Nelinho for Brazil was also well saved.
Ten Minutes from the end of play Spain had their real chance. Brazil's goalkeeper, Leao, came off his line for a high cross, and saw two Spaniards miss the easiest of shots.
