Three enterprising young Britons, two men and a woman, have set out from Gibraltar to row round the world. The trio had to make two attempts before they could leave the "Rock". When they set out on March 24th, they were forced to return after less than a dy at sea after failing to pick up the outgoing current to the Atlantic. Their second start on Sunday 7th April has apparently been more successful.
Derek King, aged 24, is the expedition leader. His travelling companions are Peter Bird, a photographer aged 26, and Carol Maystone, aged 21 the cook. They plan to reach Tangier in Morocco and then work their way down the African coast to pick up trade winds that will help their boat "Britannia Two" across the Atlantic to Panama.
If the Suez Canal is cleared in time, they hope to end their voyage by rowing through it, back into the Mediterranean.
