A problem in northern Sweden....herds of wolves and glutton that are killing hundreds of reindeer. The wild reindeer is becoming something of a rarity in the country, though large domesticated herds form practically the sole source of livelihood to the Lappa.
Recently, in one night, 40 reindeer were found slain in one locality. Now the Swedish Government is allowing aircraft to track down the killer beasts.
But shooting from the air is not permitted. When the hunters catch sight of a wolf or glutton -- or whole packs -- a man with a gun is let down to shoot the beast.
The voracious glutton belongs to the same animal family as the weasel and marten, but is much larger. The wolf and glutton (like the bear and lynx) are becoming restricted to the more solitary depths of the northern forests.
