Background: Main line trains between Cambridge and in London Liverpool Street Station in London had to be diverted for more than four hours today after a derailment at Harlow. Five goods waggons and a travelling crane came off the track in the station. No-one was hurt.

As breakdown cranes worked to clear the wreckage, local trains were stopped on each side of the station and passengers used a special bus service.

Two waggons were badly damaged and about twenty tons of local split over the railway lines and covered the ground for some distance around. Services from London were back to normal by the evening rush hour, but trains from Cambridge were still having to be diverted.
